The Goals of the GUESSS Project

The main goal of GUESSS is to generate unique and novel insights into student entrepreneurship in the form of academic and practitioner-oriented output.
Specifically, several research topics are investigated in detail, for example:
Entrepreneurial intentions
Nascent entrepreneurship
Growth and performance of new ventures
Family firm succession
Corresponding influencing factors on different levels, such as:
• Individual level: motives, preferences, social identity
• Family level: family structure, family relationships
• University level: entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurial climate and learning
• Contextual level: culture and institutions
To achieve the main goal, GUESSS collects data in as many countries as possible every 2–3 years. This is done through a centrally managed online survey which includes validated and up-to-date measurement instruments. This allows detailed cross-country comparisons and within-country analyses. Also, GUESSS identifies students who answer the survey in two different data collection waves, which allows a longitudinal analysis.
On a general level, GUESSS addresses various stakeholders: students, researchers, entrepreneurs, policy makers, universities, and others.
