Data Collections

For every data collection, the GUESSS core team at the University of St.Gallen and the University of Bern (Switzerland, see Organization) develops a high-quality online survey instrument. While certain parts of the survey remain stable in order to allow comparisons across time, each survey has a different conceptual focus in addition.
Survey invitations are then sent to the GUESSS country teams (one per country) who forward it to their own students and to their respective university partners (who then forward it to their students, see Organization). Data is collected, stored, and prepared by the GUESSS core team.
An overview of previous data collection waves is given here:
2025
The eleventh data collection wave will take place in autumn 2025.

2023
The tenth data collection wave involved 57 countries and led to a sample with more than 226’000 responses.

2021
The ninth data collection wave took place in Spring 2021, with new record numbers:
58 countries were involved, and more than 267’000 completed responses could be collected.
